The run-up to the 2021 election seems to be getting more interesting by the day. It has now become clear that the election will be a tight race and whoever is slow will be left behind.

With President Adama Barrow and his cabinet ministers almost using their Meet the People Tour as a campaign trip and at times throwing shades at theie political opponents, it is now evident that he [Barrow] intends to vie for the presidency.

It has been observed that almost all the political parties in the country are taking a keen interest in what is going on in the president’s tour. The Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC) for instance had to issue a strongly worded rebuttal to a statement by the minister of Local Governments and Lands.

The Alliance for Patriotic, Reorientation and Construction (APC) on Saturday held what they referred to as the Mega Golden Rally at Abuko in which they wanted to display their superiority in numbers. In that rally, some of the speakers heaped blame on the UDP, especially its leader, Lawyer Ousainu Darboe with some of them accusing him of being the cause of all the problems in The Gambia.

The United Democratic Party (UDP) has also not been immune to the political fever which has gripped the nation. A few days before the president began his tour, the party sacked eight of its National Assembly members for openly supporting Barrow and shunning their responsibilities in the party. These people jumped at the occasion to align themselves with Barrow during the first leg of his meet the people tour.
