As of November 2020, The Gambia have only one athlete that booked an Olympic ticket, Gina Bass who won the African Games 200m and silver in 100m. The rest have to run an IAAF standard time to book a place in the Tokyo Games.

The Secretary General and Executive Director of GNOC Abdoulie Jallow and Muhamed Janneh were on hand to address the media on the athletes’ return to Dakar.

So far, athletics, Judo and beach volleyball are the sports Gambia is relying on to send to the Games in 2021. But beach volleyball is currently in the final rounds of the qualifications and Judoka Faye Njie is gaining points in his fights.

Athletes representative Adama Jammeh assured that the athletes will get Olympic qualifications with standard timing rather than a wild card.
